FES..

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

My FES is a life saver, when i can’t get to or have physio i still have the use of my bike - maintaining the muscle mass and bone density throughout my legs, also helps keep my mind awake - i do recommend it to anyone who finds getting physio difficult - that and standing will help no end

Negative People!

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

Last night i was sent a link…(click on.. FAQ For ADULT Family and friends then - question 2 on the link) my heart sank while reading the article.. only because i’ve heard it all too often.. and i have already proved them WRONG, what i and many other people in similar situations are going through.. its difficult enough to stay positive! it shows real strength of character, on just a daily basis - i can stay strong and i WILL continue on to my goal - and i AM going to walk again.. yes i have a spinal injury and yes not many people do recover… i am and i will. A negative attitude does not help .. each day i push the medical boundries further and i reach new heights - for someone to then tell me to just give up… to give in - that nothing more will improve - all i can say is bollocks! WATCH ME again not to prove some stranger wrong! but for my own independance.. i can not and will not stay as i am - i have been (slowly) improving since my accident, i will continue to - if you need proof READ MY SITE… i am living proof that with a little positive attitude.. you can and will improve. Anyone in a similar situation, NEVER give up, don’t listen to negative people - stay positive, keep working and you will improve.

Merry Christmas

Happy Christmas - But bring on the New Year

I’m two (long) years since my injury.. but a quick look back to where i have come from to where i am now.. even to the people in my life now, some people fade away and some become closer.. one inparticular.. Who knows what this new year will bring, but it’s time for good things now along with sensory or motor function.. or new research, things are moving on in every area all over the world, i have links below.

Miami Cure for Paralysis - This is situated within the grounds of the Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Wheels to Walk Canada - Some really intresting new research into spinal cord repair.

Daniel Nicholls Foundation - London based research into a cure.

I am now looking at a home programme for my physio, this way i will be able to continue with, and expand on my routines from Standing Start and here with Stephen Barwise.. since i’ve had my new harness i have been able to exel with my standing.. this again isn’t “ment” to be possible! i plan to adapt a new build down here to combine a place for physio and a more independant life, without the cost of mechanical breakdowns, and fuel plus time spent travelling (between 2-4hrs each way), i am looking into bringing in another nero physio, then continue down here along with Stephen Barwise, this way i will continue with four days per week physio and for a lot longer.

HAL Christmas time..

TODAY!

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

Today’s the day the teddy bear’s picnic!

Today in physio i reached new heights.. yet again pushing those boundaries further, showing again the difference between whats “Medically possible” and whats “actually possible” making the impossible… possible - alexwillwalkagain !!

In the photo’s you will see i’m in the harness, but through the series of pictures, you can see the harness slacken as i take control and stabilize through my legs.. i am also wearing leg braces.. but they are set to allow a 15 degree bend - to act as a “safety belt” but still allowing my legs to buckle.. this shows if i am doing the work or not..

fundraiser continues..

Thank you Holland America Line  and to Viking Recruitment for standing by me all this time, Thanks Sarah Hynes, Thank you to everyone.

The MS Maasdam, MS Prinsendam and the MS Westerdam.
