This a very good question i have recently been asked….
How will i control movement through my body..?
Some of it is to do with the drugs i take ( i have to take six different types of pills..14
through the day ) i’m coming off one now – eventually all of them.. i have muscle “spasm’s” its all to do with potassium, sodium and lactic acid build up within the body..the potassium and sodium react and produce an electric pulse/signal.. the lactic acid is a byproduct of muscle usage – all this together creates an “energy” within my legs.. plus you send signals to your muscles all the time, its easy to send a signal but hard to stop it, i’m an “incomplete” injury – it means my spinal cord was damaged but not cut.. so signals still get past..(its hard to explain..i never experienced it prior to my accident) the baclofen (the drug that i’m coming off) it suppresses this signal.. but also suppresses nerve regeneration and its a sedative.. and it’s got alsorts of side effects (as any drug has..) also there’s gabapentin.. this is for nerve
pain, everywhere thats paralysed burns… this again is due to broken
signals, the good thing is that means there are pathways through the point of injury, (my feeling is improving.. i score 77 out of 112 on pin prick sensation) the drugs make me more comfortable… but i’ll be more comfortable when i’m walking! recovery over comfort at the moment, anyway to answer your question.. i can control that “energy” to initiate the movement, this at the moment will make me more independant and help my recovery… plus they are constantly improving the research into a cure all over the world, all the time.. i have links to the research on here..
