My Story...
Hi I’m Alex and I’m a marine engineer, while working out in the Caribbean in 2006 during some leisure time I went swimming and my whole life changed in an instant... I hit my head on a sand bank and broke my neck. The vertebrae at c5 fractured and c6 broke into three parts one of which damaged my spinal cord, leaving me paralysed from the chest down. More

Heres another quote sent to me from the Westerdam - Suzanne Fontaine :) Thank you

“Where there is life, there is hope. Where there are hopes, there are dreams. Where there are vivid dreams repeated, they become goals. Goals become the action plans and game plans that winners dwell on in intricate detail, knowing that achievement is almost automatic when the goal becomes an inner commitment.

The response to the challenges in life –purpose– is the healing balm that enables each of us to face up to adversity and strife.”

My goal in life is to walk! in my dreams i’m never in my chair (only once… but got out of it)

Physio

My body was very touch sensitive today, so i didn’t use the parallel bars.. i still stood but using my chair, i went over my sitting balance and transfers to – repetition repetition… once in my new build i will be able to vary my physio routines a lot more

No-one knows whats going to happen tomorrow…

Dream about tomorrow… but live for today!

Today

9.2 miles with the FES Bike, leg stretches – for my quads, tomorrow i’ll be back swinging from my bars (standing) a few nights ago i didn’t really sleep very well and its showing in my strength and stamina…

Can’t rain all the time

Concrete

Today i had an easy day, i’m really tired at the moment.. ups and downs tho, yesterday they poured the concrete for the base of the new build… so things still improving, even if its not actually me.

Pt update..

Today

17.2 miles with my legs, i did a double session.. i do have to be careful now on how much i build my legs up, i have them at a good muscle tone (like the rest of me.. good looking!) but to build them up much more would hinder my transfers – muscle weight.. now i’m at a stage where if the motor function came back i could use them.. most people due to muscle wastage, would then need intensive therapy! because of standing regularly weight bearing plus keeping the range of movement, i still have good bone density. I followed my 17.2 miles with leg stretches (for my quads that hurt when i nelt down a few sessions ago) then had my feet and calfs massaged with my “isqueeze” it really gets the blood pumping, then i followed that with sitting balance – i’m all tired now…!

The MS. Westerdam

This very heart felt and very true statement has been sent to me by a lady – Suzanne Fontaine, a member of the best dam crew of the Westerdam, Thank you

“There may be days when you get up in the morning and things aren’t the way you had hoped they would be. That’s when you have to tell yourself that things will get better. There are times when people disappoint you and let you down. But those are the times when you must remind yourself to trust your own judgements and opinions, to keep your life focused and believing in yourself.
There will be challenges to face and changes to make in your life and it is up to you to accept them.

Constantly keep yourself headed in the right direction for you. It may not be easy at times, but in those times of struggle you will find a stronger sense of who you are. So when the days are filled with frustration and unexpected responsibilities, remember to believe in yourself and all you want your life to be.
Because the challenges and change will only help you to find the goals that you know are meant to come true for you…”

Standing today

I stood this morning using my parallel bars, my legs are really coming on.. and my posture is getting a lot better, this in turn is making it easier for me to breath in an upright position, once in the new build (the ceilings will be higher) i will be able to customize my standing facility

Insurance

my phone was accidently put through the washing machine.. resulting in it being water damaged… i’ve been paying out for cover for my phone since i got it, so you you’d imagine i was covered..

Fonesafe will:

  • Replace your phone if it’s lost, stolen or accidentally damaged
  • Issue a replacement phone within 48 hours of a claim being approved
  • Progress your claim quickly and with minimal hassle

What’s covered:

  • Loss
  • Theft
  • Accidental damage
  • Water damage
  • Malicious damage
  • Breakdown (outside of warranty)
  • Worldwide cover
  • Cover for 2 authorised users

Fonesafe..

They say that it wasn’t covered.. due to the washing machine, but they sold to me the above.. please note the accidental and water damage part. So in my mind what they are doing is false advertising! apparently i cant do anything about it now.. but what i can do is bring to everyones attention that the company “FONESAFE” (a third party insurance company used by T-mobile) have in my mind cheated me out of some much needed money.. please learn from yet another one of my mistakes and stay away from this company -FONESAFE-

I have PT in the AM

I will stand – soon i will walk - I will walk before I crawl (it takes more muscles to crawl.. so spinal injuries tend to walk before they crawl) I do have a while to go.. but in the morning i will be standing with my bars..

People have said “you’ll never walk again” but people don’t know me! when my surgery was carried out – they used an “experimental” new way (only 13 other people..) the results are getting published just now.. my brothers were flown out to say good bye… but i came back

In the morning.. to start – i will stand.. then who knows….
