My Story...
Hi I’m Alex and I’m a marine engineer, while working out in the Caribbean in 2006 during some leisure time I went swimming and my whole life changed in an instant... I hit my head on a sand bank and broke my neck. The vertebrae at c5 fractured and c6 broke into three parts one of which damaged my spinal cord, leaving me paralysed from the chest down. More
Standing

Tuesday i stood using the standing chair with only knee blocks, things went well blood pressure wise, after the reduction in drugs my legs were difficult to initiate still managed quite a good stand, my balance was a little off but we’ve put this down to the drug reduction playing with my system – usually takes a week for things to settle down.

MY drugs…

UPDATED

We re-filled my weekly drugs today.. but changed things about a bit, since the other day when the heat (+plus a few other things) made everything loosen up a bit, i’ve reduced things down again, this time a little more drastic…. i’ve gone from 8am-12 noon-5pm-10pm to 8am-3pm-10pm by taking out a complete dose (baclofen +gabapentin) i’m now on 30mg’s of baclofen and have reduced the gabapentin by 300mg… so – BRING ON THE PAIN!

now:

8am - fluoxitine, asprin, baclofen 10mg’s, gabapentin 300mg’s oxybutynin 10mg’s.

3pm - baclofen 10mg’s, gabapentin 300mg’s

10pm – baclofen 10mg’s, gabapentin 300mg’s

the baclofen 30mg’s is for spasms… gabapentin 900mg’s is for nerve pain.. but one way they work is by “dampening” the signals from brain to body – they are the ones i need to progress!

i choose progress over pain!!

Saturday

its turning out to be a good day! i have just finished physio.. i have been going over transfers these last few sessions, this is because i seemed to be going backwards with them, with my recovery… its hard to stay positive all the time especially when things aren’t going well.. but today i’ve managed to regain the ground i had lost – i’m back on track now

plus… the frog leg casters (and wheels) are here and have been fitted – so i’m off to try them out

Frog legs….

i still have not tried them… i sent the caster forks and the (wrong) wheels off to cyclone mobility – who are still going and have been really helpful – and now they are on their way back to me.. so in the next couple of days i will have them.. but going by what i’ve heard, they should be worth the hassle! just be careful when ordering them.. and know they don’t come with wheels!

twist it

i will do my arm bike plus the crazy horse… this time when i  ride the crazy horse on camera, i’ll upload it onto you tube…(again but with a few extras) i will post a link

RAW HIDE!

my little bro

baby Lexi come out and play – mummy and daddy are waiting Abbey + Ross! (and me.. and all the rest)

due date…. today

1 + 1 =

No sleep, no energy + and heat = only 1 mile on the arm bike, last night i didn’t sleep until 6am.. then up at 8am – through the evening yesterday i couldn’t stay awake.. resulting in the restless night- over flowing into today.

Sunny day

i’m afraid the warm weather got the better of me today! i was just sorting out things (physio wise…) then got a phone call to sit in the sun…(pub beer garden) so i’ve taken a day out from PT today, i have two red knees now tho…. so that will teach me, one thing i got from today is my drugs! i can normally hold my pint glass, but today.. with the warm weather the drugs were working to well and my grip was very weak, i’m down to 35mg’s of baclofen now, after today i feel ready to to reduce them again, i’m going to try 30mg’s now and see how i go, soon i hope to be drug free
