My Story...
Hi I’m Alex and I’m a marine engineer, while working out in the Caribbean in 2006 during some leisure time I went swimming and my whole life changed in an instant... I hit my head on a sand bank and broke my neck. The vertebrae at c5 fractured and c6 broke into three parts one of which damaged my spinal cord, leaving me paralysed from the chest down. More
ps..

i also have Bono’s and Victoria Beckham’s autograph…. but MILLA!!

Milla Jovovich!

I recieved a signed photograph from Milla Jovovich!! saying good luck with the physio – to have so many people behind me is unbelieveable - THANK YOU

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

MAMMY XXXX ps… hurry baby Lexi (nearly your birthday too)

lets move forward

Saturday i had PT – transfer’s… i seem to have gone a little backwards with them… it’s my elbows, when they are locked i feel like they will buckle (and down to 90% confidence…) with someone in front of me i have no problem, without i feel like i’ll fall.. i need a padded floor (or padded cell!) then i’d jump it! everything else is going in the right direction.. using the crazy horse along with the arm bike it will propel me forward – increasing my arm strength and stablity, prior to setting out my programme i hadn’t used the arm bike for a couple of weeks (the cable broke.. i am sticking to the leg bike.. i have less sensation, it is electric pulses every second, a very strange feeling) now i have something to stick to, my upper body is as important through the recovery – use it or lose it

me..

When things happen in life.. you have to accept what hand your delt… you need to adapt to the twists and turn’s.. you have to stand up and face your problems – they don’t go away.. unless you deal with them, (one thing though… once you’ve delt with your problem from today – tomorrow will only bring more) – life is full of pain and hurt but to look past that.. to be strong enough to live through this will bring the good times.. the love that you may have lost and the hurt that you’ve felt is nothing to what can be.. to what could be… you have to live life like you’ve never been hurt… live for today.. plan for tomorrow… but while your waiting for things to happen, thats when your life happens.. live for yourself, don’t let life pass you by.

I’m not living the life i had… i’m living the life i have

Saturday

i will have my soft compound 5″ x 1″ (hub) front caster wheels for the frog leg casters - thanks to Cyclone mobility (who are still trading) and should finally be able to go through doorway’s or over a pebble etc… with ease (and less chance of flying out)

Well…..

Frog legs…. they do look like a good quality product, BUT the wording on the site is very mis-leading.. reading it carefully it does say “caster forks” the pictures all show wheels.. but they aren’t included, and where it asks you to measure up.. it says “wheels” but should say “hub” by measuring the wrong part (but the part i’m told to) i have forks that dont fit my origional wheels.. the most annoying part is the wheels are only $30 so i would have paid extra, i will now source the wheels elsewhere (UK based) i can’t wait another 4-5 weeks (Alex NOW Smith)

If your looking into buying this product.. (Fiona) they do look good and i would say they will work… just know you need to get the wheels to (the softer wheels will assist the suspension). and where it says measure the “Wheel” it means the “HUB”

Again nothings straight forward!! and everythings way over priced…

Thanks for listening, and tune in next time i need to moan (which is most day’s)

change..

So already im up and all done with my PT 6.3 miles with the FES bike, i have also strapped some wrist weight’s on, this is due to the weakness in my left wrist.. (pain is just weakness leaving the body!) i have also something else to add to my routine… thats a slendertone belt (this isn’t for my six pack) but by using this belt it contracts my stomach muscles over and over.. using this along with the crazy horse will really work my core stability/strength.

Just so you know.. i do run these ideas past or work them through with my physio (Stephen Barwise), the main thing is that i have to try not to over do things.. i’m just waiting on the delivery of the frog leg front wheel casters now.

Right…

a slight deviation from the programme… i know.. i know.. only half way through week one (but i’m aloud i wrote it!) still fine tuning, i will be up early and do the arm bike.. (maybe two sessions) i’ve been told now that the frog leg wheel casters are being delivered tomorrow, this will free things up for me that little bit more.. having front suspension will allow me to be that more independent.. (sunken curbs… pebbles.. doorway’s etc..)

Fiona
