My Story...
Hi I’m Alex and I’m a marine engineer, while working out in the Caribbean in 2006 during some leisure time I went swimming and my whole life changed in an instant... I hit my head on a sand bank and broke my neck. The vertebrae at c5 fractured and c6 broke into three parts one of which damaged my spinal cord, leaving me paralysed from the chest down. More

Esoteric – the word for today..

1. understood by or meant for only the select few who have special knowledge or interest; recondite: poetry full of esoteric allusions.
2. belonging to the select few.
3. private; secret; confidential.
4. (of a philosophical doctrine or the like) intended to be revealed only to the initiates of a group: the esoteric doctrines of Pythagoras.
Breathe

Take a step back sometimes.. (in my case, roll back) and just BREATHE – take a deep breath when things get to you.. i used to smoke a good 20-40 per day, (another result of my accident – my diaphragm is paralyzed, i’ve had trouble breathing.. while in hospital my whole respiratory system gave up) now i’m free from tobacco.. just a deep breath feel’s so good – somethings in life are free (sexy time is free to… until the piter pater of those tiny feet)

Tremors

A real classic – one to watch over and over.. someone said to me a while back, “we need to watch the 50 greatest films ever made” i said “no – thats just someone else’s 50 best…” Tremors would be up there for me.

As we’re talking about TV (well i am..) its Jacks last 2hrs tomorrow of series 7 of 24.. he is in a spot of bother but i have faith that Jack will save the day!

Fizzy oh

today i had physio/hydro pool time – my stamina was really good, we looked at reasons why my legs were kicking.. and found it’s most likely an “overflow” from my hips when swimming, as my body gets tired, my arms and shoulders start fatiguing then the rest of my body starts to “assist” firing signals off everywhere, while standing (in the chair) i can activate my quad muscles and prevent my legs from buckling.. i can try and use this in the pool – repeated sessions should “kick things off”

only time will tell

Nobody knows what will happen

Serendipity…

Serendipity is the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely.

another great quote from Suzanne Fontaine – it fits with every aspect of life…

fish

im just waiting on my physio, then we will be checking out how/why my legs were kicking while i swam the other day….??

again no-one knows what will happen..

me and my standing

I’ve just finished physio, a very good session.. things are improving, my transfers were good, so was my blood pressure.. then standing (using the chair) with just the knee block, i managed to push through in my legs and avoided them buckling at all! and successfully did free standing with my complete upper half away from the chair, this shows that my strength and core stability has improved – bring on the treadmill – bring on the new build – alexwillwalkagain

morphine dreams

if you fancy getting a bit confused………. i’ve added more to the morphine dreams (at the top of the page), as the name states they are drug induced

life is short

and if you haven’t tried these you’ve missed out

pt

i had pt.. and after a rough night i wasn’t feeling great – (blood pressure among other things) so wasn’t looking forward to exercise.. but once i got down to it – it was a pretty good session! standing was really good – and blood pressure wasn’t a problem (…?)
