My Story...
Hi I’m Alex and I’m a marine engineer, while working out in the Caribbean in 2006 during some leisure time I went swimming and my whole life changed in an instant... I hit my head on a sand bank and broke my neck. The vertebrae at c5 fractured and c6 broke into three parts one of which damaged my spinal cord, leaving me paralysed from the chest down. More
PT!

I did the best transfer today, followed by some good standing (this is with only a knee block and pelvic support) this afternoon i will swim – FES tomorrow

energy

9.3 miles on my leg bike, then 6.3 miles with my arm bike.. the weathers hot hot hot (it’s great but hard doing physio in it) so early evening i went for a hydro session – tomorrow i have pt, possibly standing…

Recovery

today my recovery is from a hangover.. i swam yesterday then the fair came to staplehurst so i extended the birthday drinks a little.. so just the isqueez to keep the blood circulating, tomorrow back to physio – swimming and FES bike.

The FES bike has lots of benefits, such as:
Training the cardio-pulmonary system for improved fitness
Rebuilding of muscle strength and bulk
Improvement of bone density
Improvement of blood circulation and reduced risk of bedsores (Decubitus ulcer)
Improvement of intestinal and bladder function
Improvement of responsiveness to insulin (diabetes)
Decreases in limb spasticity
Improved feelings of well-being

Where the boma wheelchair although electric opens up the world again – being in my chair unable to move rooms without assistance is soul distroying… with the boma i’d be free to escape when I wanted..

BUT again the cost of everything… i have e-motion wheels and the permobil C500 electric wheelchair that i’m hoping to sell to raise the funds for the boma.. does any one need either of these..?

The new build

Apologies

Sorry for being away -June 25th 1979 a baby was born, the lil baby was ME! the world was blessed, i’m back to it now, yesterday i still swam and had a relaxing… but drunk birthday

today i had the Boma wheelchair trial – it’s a really great machine, and really opens the world up again.. from snow to sand, dirt tracks and fields but even down to the local shop.. at the moment the front door ramps scary! just to be able to leave the house (myself and Tyler puppy).. you can’t put a price on it, plus the new build is at the bottom of a BIG hill, as nice as it’s going to be -to be able to take Tyler for a run “before i can run” comes with a £9000 price tag

Standing

in physio today i stood using my chair, it was a good session – really good balance and core stability, from 85 degrees in the chair i can come away from the chair with only the knee and pelvic support, the weathers good again tomorrow i’ll swim

The ENT doctor is making me go and spend yet another night in hospital… the result of my CAT scan shows my left nostril (the synus) is completely blocked (with a “pollep”) and its pressing on the nasel cavity, restricting my breathing.. yet another set back!

ENT

I have to go see the ENT doctor today, to find out about my nose – synesis’s, happy day’s
