My Story...
Hi I’m Alex and I’m a marine engineer, while working out in the Caribbean in 2006 during some leisure time I went swimming and my whole life changed in an instant... I hit my head on a sand bank and broke my neck. The vertebrae at c5 fractured and c6 broke into three parts one of which damaged my spinal cord, leaving me paralysed from the chest down. More
Bad physio

i had a bad session today, my blood pressure was not good – the transfers were not the worsed.. but i can do so much more – i’m putting it down to the reduction in medication/broken sleep/no energy etc..

BRICKS

We now have bricks for the new build – things can start moving again.. still need that big cash injection…..

Again again..

Again last night i missed my drugs – so woke up burning… but not to jumpy.. because of this i’m going to use it to my advantage and reduce the dosage once more, i will reduce the baclofen by 5mg’s and make an appointment to see the doctor to swap the gabapentin tablets from 300mg’s to 100mg’s.. this will make it a more relaxed drop. Back to this morning i’m about to do the leg and arm bike – no swimming because the weathers turned

i’ve just completed 9.1miles on the leg bike and 6.3 on the arm bike – with the lower dosage my sensation has heightened – electricity HURTS!

No energy..

as a result of yesterday’s energy – i’m all out today.. i’ve said before i’m all or nothing, and today i couldn’t do anything,(apart from 2 sessions with the isqueez – to keep the blood flowing) i shall ease myself into it tomorrow with the FES bike

Watch me

Follow my progress.. slowly but steadily i’m going to push those medical boundries off a cliff!

Energy

Today, after a good night.. i was up early and after 9 miles on the leg bike and 6.3 miles on the arm bike – i went down to see the chickens (still no eggs!) then the fishes in the pond.. and Tyler found his log and jumped in the pond – then i went swimming (not in the pond) – hydrotherapy is so good, the lack of pressure on my body.. plus its so much easier to initiate muscle movement.. and again the feeling of freedom – but now the weathers turning colder again…

Flying

in physio today.. my standing reached new heights – in the standing chair (it stands me to approx 85%) i stood to the chairs full height with only the knee block, from there using my stomach muscles and core strength i stood fully upright (with only the knee block and pelvic support) with my sitting balance.. i started by sitting unsupported for approx 6 secs, this i can now do for an undetermined amount of time, i am now doing the same in standing! plus my blood pressure wasn’t a problem, and i managed to stop my quads from buckling..

following a great physio session we went to the pool… on the way down i managed to flip my wheelchair backwards hitting my head and cut my elbow.. and ended up on the floor… again – oops!

To get into the pool today i sat on the side of the pool, leaning forward i dived in, and now i can easily turn myself over (to breathe) so can do this all un aided – following this, some sun bathing and snorkeling, just laying on my back in the pool (completly unsupported) its the best feeling – as close to freedom as i can get these days

a very productive day

clean bill of health

i’m as healthy as a….. healthy person!? until Oct 2010 i’m afraid Aylesbury will have to do with out me (18 months until my next appointment) kidney ultra sound and x-rays all good (and car transfers) tomorrow weather permitting i will do hydrotherapy (that.. or FES/crazy horse)

I will do this thing
