My Story...
Hi I’m Alex and I’m a marine engineer, while working out in the Caribbean in 2006 during some leisure time I went swimming and my whole life changed in an instant... I hit my head on a sand bank and broke my neck. The vertebrae at c5 fractured and c6 broke into three parts one of which damaged my spinal cord, leaving me paralysed from the chest down. More
on your bike

today, 12.6miles on my arm bike then a trip to town.. where a very fat guy decided i wasn’t “disabled enough” for a blue badge! (he wanted my space) i hate being “disabled!” but unfortunately for the time being (paralyzed from the nipples down) does in fact qualify for a badge, where eating yourself to the state of “being disabled”….. maybe you need to try the gym?!?

my nose

just quickly.. after stopping the steroids and a couple of stuffy nights my nose is all clear once again – the op was a succsess.

“A nasal polyp is an overgrowth of the tissue of the nasal mucous membrane dur to inflammation. Nasal polyps are benign, occur in the form of droplets or sitting on a wide base in the nasal cavity and/or maxillary sinuses“.

Although today has gone.. tomorrow never goes

Another 6.3miles.. no double session today due to a sore bum…. sitting in the wrong chair for to long, i have enrolled in a course studying digital photography to do alongside physio.. i enjoy it and it could lead onto a future career..

physio

today started off bad.. transfers were on the very low end of the scale… but then in standing i had very good control of my core and back muscles including my spine, so not to bad over all

FES

12.6miles – i’m really clocking them up now.. my transfers are getting so much better, the FES bike is def the best piece of equiptment that i own

FES

The leg bike kept going into passive mode.. the bike works out when your legs are struggling and takes over, but i just cheated it and started again to reach my target mileage, something you shouldn’t really do.. but i’ve had enough of gentley gentley.. i followed that with 12.6miles with the arm bike.

i’m fed up of being wrapped up in cotton wool!

SCI or SCR

I’m not disabled!

i’m RECOVERING!

Believe in your self – your the only one who truely knows…

again…

12.6miles with my arm bike, but only 5.4miles on the leg bike.. this is due to the bike going into “passive” mode – meaning the bike took over.

my nose

its been a month now from my op.. things were good for a while, but now i’ve stopped the course of steriod drops and now im all bunged up again.. this is preventing me from sleeping well (i have completly stopped the sinex spray) and has knocked me off the physio rails.. i hope to be back on track tomorrow.
