My Story...
Hi I’m Alex and I’m a marine engineer, while working out in the Caribbean in 2006 during some leisure time I went swimming and my whole life changed in an instant... I hit my head on a sand bank and broke my neck. The vertebrae at c5 fractured and c6 broke into three parts one of which damaged my spinal cord, leaving me paralysed from the chest down. More
waiting……

just finished pt.. a good session, on the treadmill followed by the crazy horse with slendertone.. now i’m just waiting to see if it brings on the nerve pain that i had on Sunday, if so then i’ll need to change things about.. no need for pain if theres no real gain

treadmill

in the morning another session on my feet, followed by the crazy horse, on Sunday i had the worst nerve pain through my legs ever.. it could be a good thing, i will see what happens Wed after a similar session tomorrow..

going back

trying to sort out my swimming.. getting in and out of the pool, they said at hospital a “pool hoist” would be £6,500!! i then went for a kiefer board (spinal board) at £300, in the process of getting one i ended up with two spinal head restraints – sent in error… but still had to pay over £70 duty!! inbetween this my dad cemented a 2 ton engine hoist from the field at a cost of a couple hrs labour.. ALL disabled equipment is way over priced!

so anyway… i’ve donated those head restraints to Maidstone Ambulances, i hope they can be used to help someone

improve

each physio session things change, sometimes good and of course sometimes bad…. today things went well, i did assisted walking on the treadmill – this went better then the last session, then had a go on the crazy horse.. i’m now using a slendertone belt while riding the horse to give my core as much stimulant as possible. I followed this by going out in the boma wheelchair and getting another puncture… tried repairing it with tyre seal foam which needed me to do some endurance laps in our field ending in failure… leaving me with only 3 wheels

Stand!

today on the FES bike i did a double session with my legs, covering 18.6miles.. followed by 6.3miles with my arms, i need to see tomorrow if there is much difference on my treadmill – i’m still chasing those rats!

9.3

back on my bike – 9.3miles with FES, a really good therapy - everything combined.. things could start improving further, only time will tell

FES

This past week i haven’t done my leg bike.. the difference when trying to initiate my legs in “walking” was massive! it’s amazing how much each piece of equipment is needed… – so full bore on the bike! and lets see what i can do on the treadmill on Saturday.. i followed today’s treadmill session with a go on the “crazy horse” we have integrated a slender tone belt into this routine, this to get as much out of my ab’s as possible, we must have over done this… because the session ended early with me needing the loo! i will use it again, but just on a lower setting.
