My Story...
Hi I’m Alex and I’m a marine engineer, while working out in the Caribbean in 2006 during some leisure time I went swimming and my whole life changed in an instant... I hit my head on a sand bank and broke my neck. The vertebrae at c5 fractured and c6 broke into three parts one of which damaged my spinal cord, leaving me paralysed from the chest down. More

physio was good, i’ve been on parallel bars.. i dont get much from these sessions, but my physio gets very excited! my gluets and quads fire and i’m bearing weight through my legs – things improving… slowly slowly.. but still in the right direction, this week i’m hitting the leg bike! i need to build up “me ol leggy’s”

plus we’ve found its not a squirrel in the roof… it’s a big mouse!

physio

it went very well today! self transfers plenty of strength and very independent with very good balance, i only needed assistance with the placement of the board.. then tried a chair to chair transfer into the boma.. this i’d describe as falling up hill into a big mess, with to much assistance from Steve… but showed plenty of strength and promise, then in the afternoon we went down to Camber sands to fly my kite on the beach – i surprised myself with my skill and technique – i was the only one who could keep it in the air! without triceps or finger function – “as i’m still quadriplegic” - i am a great guy

just AMAZING!

Monday morning..

for some, a bad time of the week.. most of my working life i’ve worked different shift patterns, so Monday’s have never really fazed me, i’ll be starting off tomorrow doing my leg bike then the arm bike (for a few sessions i’m going to have to move the pads about.. for the tattoo healing time…) then i’m having lunch with my Nana, then entertaining Tyler out in the boma chair (weather permitting)

legs

keeping them in shape for the summer, i’ll be swimming soon the weathers getting warmer. I did a double session on the leg bike then went out in the boma, tomorrow i’ll be on the treadmill with Steve, i’m off the arm bike for a few day’s because of the addition to my back – i’ve had my back tattoo finished! i have found that the area of muscles under the tattoo have woken up and are so much more responsive.. there are a lot of variables… but i do think the stimulation from the tattoo has woken things up… but thats my view.. who knows!

i’m still here

i’m still going.. legs, arms, legs, arms, arms.. off roading in  my boma inbetween.. on Tuesday i had physio on the parallel bars working on my reflex’s in my legs, i’m going to have another Asia test, because going by whats happening in my legs and lower back, i should have moved up the scale… who knows??
