My Story...
Hi I’m Alex and I’m a marine engineer, while working out in the Caribbean in 2006 during some leisure time I went swimming and my whole life changed in an instant... I hit my head on a sand bank and broke my neck. The vertebrae at c5 fractured and c6 broke into three parts one of which damaged my spinal cord, leaving me paralysed from the chest down. More

hydro

today hydro and the same in the morning with Steve (pt), to see how things have changed from last year, i know myself that i have come on a lot in the water and out – although soooooooooooo slow! i have to maintain a positive outlook or i’m going no-where

my thumbs coming and going… i spent last night without it.. but today i have slight movement back, in physio today i did 750 assisted steps (Steve moving my legs) on the tread mill, my body was very synchronised and my blood pressure was good, if i can get myself into an exo-skeleton there wont be any stopping me!!

i love Milla (Mia )

there’s no secret ingredient

nothing added.. quite a lot taken away! i want my body back……. i went sailing, it was really good to be out, pictures will be up soon, i’m looking into how i can be back on the water in one way or another??? today a double leg session.. tomorrow legs and arms, then out on the off road chair – the weathers ment to be warm over the weekend if so more swimming

physio went well today, i was on the parallel bars stabilizing and my balance was good, i could initiate my quads but this made my blood pressure drop because i can’t help holding my breath.. this i due to my lower diaphram being paralized, once i take my weight in my arms i lift my weight off my lungs and it gets difficult to breath (plus i’m a man… so i can’t multi-task!), the weathers turned again so no swimming, tomorrow i’ll be on my bike, then in the afternoon i’m trying my hand at sailing – watch out for me in the 2012 olympics!

hydro

the weather recently has been fantastic! my body has changed a lot in the passed few weeks… i tried the FES leg bike but my right ankle reacts to the stimulant and “makes me tip toe” this forces the bike to stop which is a problem… i’ve given my bike a rest, but i will be back on it soon, while we have the weather i’m making the most of the pool, building my strength and stamina up, my standing is good and i can now maintain a good hip thrust – this again “should be impossible”

be all you can with what you have, you never know when that will be taken from you….

FREEDOM AND INDEPENDENCE – $20,000!

give me a day…….

i need a day off! a carer, a doctor, a nurse… they all get time off.. what about the injured? what about me? the only break i get is when i’m asleep! and most nights i cant do that…

i’ve been down recently, on Tuesday i had my catherdar changed (suprapubic) that always gets to me..

tomorrow i’ll be back on my bike and possibly hydro, depending on the weather

doughnuts

physio today was a different but positive session, my right leg (normally dominant) was hard to initiate anything.. where as the left was alive from the start, leading the way on the treadmill, when my right woke up the stabilizers in my ankle were correcting my foot alignment while walking (assisted steps). So with my level of injury, it shouldn’t but hopefully my thumb will come back…. things have calmed down in my back but only slight movement in my thumb.. where before i had a good pinch! my left side is evening out to match my right – prior to my injury i could write with both hands (ambidextrous) only.. my left would come out mirror image, they were both similar in strength.. now with everything stabilizing and synchronizing i need to hurry up with my upper body strength and stamina – after my physio i went and picked up my 12 FREE krispy kreme doughnuts!
